Spotlight Team: Chelsea Soccer Club's U9 Boys Blue

The Chelsea Bulldogs U9 Boys Blue team consists of nine of the most exemplary young boys Chelsea has to offer. While the fall 2015 season posed some very challenging opponents, optimism was seldom lost among the group. Throughout the entirety of the season the boys did well to build up one other and grow as a team. As their coach, I could not have asked for a better group of boys that are so committed to improving not only themselves, but also their friends and teammates.
As with any sport, physical coordination comes first and foremost. Chelsea Soccer Club has placed a strong focus on core fundamental soccer techniques, which will give its players a strong foundation upon which to build. Dribbling, trapping, passing, shooting - these are some of the primary skills that are practiced each week, with repetition. As the boys gain confidence in their footwork, the coach is able to progress into more tactical techniques and positional roles that will help the players’ organization and decision-making during games. The boys eagerly learn all of these skills, even lending a hand to fellow teammates when a particular technique isn’t clear.
Soccer is a true team sport, and the boys do well to embrace that sense of camaraderie. After every game it is has become customary for each player to express something that he observed a teammate do well. The insightfulness of their observations creates a constructive atmosphere that benefits all of the boys, especially those entirely new to the sport. The consistency of this positivity is a testament to the decency of their character, and will serve them well not only in soccer, but in their future friendships. No matter their record this spring season, the U9 Boys Blue team will undoubtedly make their town, their coach, their parents, and each other very proud.
