Message from the DOC

Hi Chelsea Soccer Club members,

I hope this email finds you well. I wanted to take a second to look back at the Fall season and what’s coming next.

First, I’m very proud of all our players and coaches after another successful Fall, and happy that we completed our first semi-normal season after the last few ones being affected by COVID in one way or another.

I understand there have been some challenges, particularly with some last minute coaching changes that we had to make right before the season and even mid-season. I understand the schedule of some coaches may have cause conflicts that are far from ideal. I sincerely apologize for any inconveniences these events may have caused. Please note that most entities our size do not employ qualified coaches, but rather volunteers. One of my main goals when I took over the club was to give our kids the best we could find; I honestly feel we have the best coaching staff we have ever had, and are actively working on adding more outstanding coaches to it. This is not easy given our size, our geographical location and our financial resources. A lot of these coaches are looking to build a career out of coaching, and the added responsibilities can make things challenging at times. While I remain committed to maintaining the best possible staff at the club, please trust me when I say that we are looking to learn from these events and try to make it better and more consistent for our players and families moving forward.

You may have received your individual evaluation from your coach in your main email address. If not, expect to get it in the coming days. Our Technical Director Matthew Clarke is storing that information (this is the third season we do this) and looking to track player progress over time.

As for the Winter season, I’m actively working with Chelsea Schools to get their availability. We plan on starting our Winter practices after Thanksgiving, which means our players can take a break from soccer now. Because we work around what’s available after school-sponsored activities book their times, we are always bound to dealing with different facilities being available on different days/times. I will do my best to keep the schedule as consistent as possible from week to week over the Winter season, but it will likely not be 100% consistent all season.

If you want to participate in an indoor league starting after Christmas, please be sure to take 10 seconds to fill this form ASAP if you haven’t yet: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdkRY-G257_7CovJq1VAwThwUZZ8sUVXSydAZpC7N0rYu0hsQ/viewform?usp=sf_link

Lastly, you may have heard that Michigan women’s soccer are Big Ten Champs for the first time since 1999! We are super excited to begin our NCAA tournament run this Friday at home against Bowling Green, 6:00PM. Tickets are available here: https://mgoblue.com/sports/2017/6/16/tickets-sow-index-html.aspx#Singles

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Looking forward to a great Winter season!
