Club Statement

Dear Chelsea Soccer Club Members,
After much deliberation during these unprecedented and challenging times, the Board of Directors has made a decision regarding the Spring 2020 season. Our main priority has been the best interest of our beloved families and coaches, and even though this will significantly impact the club’s finances, we are confident that as a non-profit we can absorb it and start looking at the future of our organization with excitement and optimism. This is also thanks to the great work and management of past Board of Directors. Here is what we have decided:
-Year-round registrations will get 40% of the 2019/2020 season fees applied as a credit towards the 2020/2021 fees. Spring only registrations will get 100% instead. We will continue to pay our coaches 80% of their stipend.
-We definitely would like all our players to come back and continue to play soccer with us next season, but if they choose not to or they can’t, year round registration can opt for a 35% cash refund (90% for Spring only, and graduating seniors will get a 100% cash refund).
-Please note that the following may not qualify or may qualify for just a portion of the credit/refund: scholarship recipients, donations, payment installment fees, transaction fees, coaches’ kid discounts, Fall only players and delinquent accounts.
2020/2021 Pre-Registration & Season
The Michigan State Youth Soccer Association announced last week that in-person tryouts for the following season were cancelled. Starting on June 1, we will be able to sign all our current players for the 2020/2021 season. We kindly ask you that if you plan on playing soccer next season, you commit to our club between June 1 and June 12 to secure your spot and  support our organization during these tough times. You will not have to put any money down since you will get the discount from coming back from the current season. Starting June 13 we will be allowed to sign new players, so we also ask you to help us spread the word to potential new players.

Additionally, the club has decided to implement the following measures for next season to help weather the storm that our society is currently facing:
-Install a policy that will automatically refund 50% of next year fees if the Fall season does not run, and 100% if the entire 20/21 season does not run.
-Strengthen and reshape our scholarship fund program to aid families in financial need. Families will also be given the opportunity to donate their discount towards the scholarship fund if they wish.
Please understand that there are some logistics we need to go through to make all of the above happen. As we finalize plans we will keep you updated. We ask that you remain patient in the meantime.; Please note that you do not need to communicate to us whether you prefer a discount or a refund just yet. These are stressful and frustrating times for everybody and for our organization it has been difficult, and as a Board have done our very best to making decisions that are fair. We look forward to the future of our great soccer club, hoping that our society will recover from this very soon and that we will all be able to resume our normal lives.
Lastly, I would like to invite you to our Zoom Club Night on Thursday, May 21st at 7:00PM where we will be giving more information on the transition to the 2020/2021 season as well as making some exciting announcements for 2020/2021. There will be an opportunity to answer questions you may have. Current families and prospective families are all invited. More information will follow soon.
