Update from the Director of Coaching

Hi Chelsea Soccer Club members,

I hope this message finds you well. As we begin our Fall season tomorrow, I wanted to address the uncertainty that we all live in these days, and how it could affect us. I would like to begin by stating that no matter what happens, we are going to continue to be the Chelsea Soccer Club, and to do everything in our hands to make our players feel part of their teams and the club during these challenging times. We truly appreciate the support we have received from our families, and our hope is to be the same club we were before the pandemic once all of this is over.

Our Preseason Camp that kicks off our Fall 2020 season starts tomorrow (Monday). I’m meeting with our coaches tonight and we’ll finalize training days and times for each team, amongst other things. We’ll be communicating those this week. We are still making decisions on Technical Training and Goalkeeper Training.

As of today, we do not know when we’ll be able to begin practicing with contact and playing games. We are in a fluid situation and things can change at any moment. We are following directions from the Michigan State Youth Soccer Association, and we hope that they will allow us to move forward soon. In the meantime, we are going to begin our team practices as planned (which will always be in compliance with our Return to Training Protocol). We are confident that we can continue to operate safely, since our teams represent small groups of people keeping their social distance outdoors.

We promised to refund your Fall fee in full or a prorated amount should the season be modified, shortened or cancelled. We are about to begin our practices, but as I mentioned we do not yet know what and how much we will be able to do. Rest assured that once we know exactly how the Fall season was affected, we’ll be taking action in this regard.

Lastly, I would like to ask the families that have not made a decision yet to complete their registration this week, or let us know that they won’t be playing. Also, if you have not yet finalized your documentation online, please look for an email from SportsForms to do so.

Thanks again for your continued support, and enjoy the rest of your summer! We look forward to getting our Fall season officially started tomorrow.

RETURN TO TRAINING PROTOCOL

• Be sure that players have not shown symptoms of COVID-19 in the 14 days prior to training. Also, we ask that players take their temperature before training and stay home if it’s above 100.3 °F.
• Players need to bring their own water battles as sharing water will be strictly not allowed. We will also ask players to set up their backpacks separate from their teammates at least 6 ft. apart (avoid piling them up).
• Coaches will wear masks at all times. We are asking that players wear face coverings when arriving to and leaving training (it will not be required during training, but players can still wear it if they decide to).
• There will be a sanitizing station and a waste bin for players to use. We ask that players bring their own hand sanitizer for their own convenience and they use it before and after the training session.
• At this point, social distancing is still being enforced so no contact will occur during our training sessions.
• We ask that parents return to their cars after dropping the kids off. Also, we ask that you avoid carpooling as much as possible.
